I took this course during the 2009, Fall semester with Donna Scanlon. My MATC Advisor, Paul Kurf likes to say this was my "Trial by fire class," because this was the hardest "B" grade I had ever received; it is also the lowest grade I have received here at Michigan State University. To say I had troubles getting through this class is an understatement, but I did learn to appreciate my Art Teaching position all the more because of it.
I am not a reader in any sense of the word. It takes me a whole week just to read a Sports Illustrated magazine. I signed up for this class as a last minute fill in, because I ran out of options. I had no clue that this course was a Literacy Instructive class, where I would be teaching two children how to read (better than they already could) and keeping a running record of their progress. I felt like Ray Charles trying to tell Stevie Wonder how to drive down the street.

MOST OF MY WORK CONSISTED OF AUDIO RECORDINGS OF THE TWO STUDENTS READING. I MONITORED THEIR PROGRESS AND I WAS WATCHED OVER BY THE READING RECOVERY/TITLE 1 TEACHERS OF MY COOPERATING SCHOOL.
